Constitution Day

Constitution Day in Norway is a public holiday that is celebrated every year on the May 17. This year the weekday is a Friday. As this is a public holiday, expect most stores, banks and services to be closed or have reduced opening hours.

The Constitution of Norway was signed and adopted by the Norwegian people on May 17, 1814. The Constitution Day celebrates this event and commemorates the signing of the Norwegian constitution.

The day has been celebrated since 1814, but it was not until 1844 that it became an official holiday in Norway.
